Social media refers to any media that is posted and created by users, it can take many forms. Some common social media technologies and type of sites are forums, blogs, message boards, wikis, podcasts, videos. The four most popular social media networks are Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Flickr, and Youtube.
Social media is the media created, where social networks are the platforms that deliver that media to the masses via integrating easy methods of sharing. Example: Most youtube videos have an embed tag that lets you embed the video in your personal blog, on facebook, in emails, and more. It’s this social aspect that’s 50% of the social, the other 50% is that all of these videos, blogs, podcasts, etc generally allow for feedback, comments, etc.
Through the combination of sharing + feedback you create a mechanism whereby not only can a video go viral, but if you’re a business you can also gain a lot of feedback about what you’re doing, and from that feedback make changes that could increase the bottom line.
